The Ruru/Morepork is a small owl that is native only to Aotearoa NZ, and Tasmania. Considered by our people to be a messenger between worlds, linked to guardianship, kaitiakitanga, grief, protection, and a general spiritual awareness. A prized tohu.

Ruru like roosting on lower dead leaves of ponga or silver ferns, and can be found in several urban parks in New Zealand, as well as in well-vegetated suburbs.

This pendant is strung with a woven waxed linen cord (adjustable length).

The bone is beef bone, with sealed paua shell eyes.

Dimensions: 14cm long, 4.5cm wide

This Ruru is a unique one off piece handcarved in New Zealand
