Kina Stud Earrings
These beautiful recycled sterling silver stud earrings are cast from an actual teeny, tiny, kina shell! The stud sits flush against the ear giving an elegant and harmonious look. The detail in these delicate little works of art produced by nature is simply exquisite.
Stud measurements: 7mm(diameter) x 12mm(length)
Kina (sea urchin or sea egg) are important members of rocky reefs and are considered to be a delicious delicacy by Māori. The raised dotted pattern left remaining on the shells is where their fearsome spikes are attached when alive. They are endemic to New Zealand and can live up to 20 years! Finding whole shells or even pieces are a beachcombers delight.
These are handmade in Takaka by Stone Arrow, a boutique artisan business that creates products inspired by the beauty of nature here in Aotearoa New Zealand. They specialise in creating high quality, sustainable, innovative, and hand-crafted jewellery made from up-cycled materials.
