Mako Design
Mako Design Kapeu Earrings
We are proud to stock this handmade jewellery from local pakihi Mako Design.
This stylised "kapeu" design is inspired by the traditional Māori ear adornment. It is delicately scored and then "dipped" in black, white or royal blue, giving it a beautiful pop of colour. This beautiful earring is so lightweight, and versatile.

"Kia ora and welcome to Mako Design. Thanks for stopping by our small business. Now, a little bit about us… We are a mother/daughter business based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch. I am a graphic designer, so I take care of all the social media and marketing (you've prob seen my face a lot on our socials), and my mum has a lot of knowledge around Māori design, te reo Māori and kaupapa Māori. We love working together on the designs and creative processes, tapping into both our skillsets.
We whakapapa to Wairewa/Little River and Whakaki in Hawkes Bay. We named our business Mako Design after our whare tupuna at Little River, which is called Mako. Our mission is to create contemporary Māori jewellery that celebrate our heritage and empower us as people, so that te ao Māori continues to thrive in Aotearoa.
Thank you for stopping by and supporting our pakihi"
