These stunning Pōhutukawa flowers are individually handmade by contemporary Māori artist Jade.
Each flower is meticulously handmade from Aotearoa / New Zealand harakeke/flax.
The green leaves are made from entire blades of flax that have had the green leaf tissue removed and just the skeleton (muka) remains. This is a complex and skilful process.
Jade (Te Arawa) is based in Tauranga and has been learning under her whaea kēkē, an amazing weaver and Pouako at Te Puia, Rotorua.
The price is for a single flower. The flower and leaves part is approx 15cm long, and the entire piece from tip to end of stem is approx 50cm long.
