Artist statement:
"We hope to encourage indigenous communities throughout Aotearoa and abroad to be proud of their whakapapa and cultural identity. Believing that this begins in the home and better yet, from birth, we have curated quality Māori and Pacific Island taonga for your pēpi (baby).
Ko Ngātokimatawhaorua te waka, Ko Ngāpuhi te iwi, ko Ngāti Korokoro te hapu, ko Amy toku ingoa.
Ko Tainui te waka, ko Ngāti Hinerangi te iwi, ko Ngāti Tokotoko te hapu, ko Dayna toku ingoa.
Ko wai tātou? Ko "BO & KO Baby" mātou. "BO" represents Amy's pēpi 'Beau', and “KO” represents Dayna's pēpi/pepe 'Koree', our pēpi/pepe are of Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hinerangi, and Samoan descent. We thought it extremely fitting to name our pakihi (business) after the two most precious little humans in our lives that have given us the drive and motivation to bring this idea to life.
BO & KO Baby is a pakihi made up of two māmā (us), our two tāne and our four tamariki. The kaupapa of our pakihi began while we were on maternity leave with our first pēpi. Looking to source baby products to celebrate our babies heritage, we identified a lack of cultural baby goods in the market. Because of this, we looked at designing our own products. This idea expanded into what we are today, offering our products for whānau/aiga throughout Aotearoa and abroad.
