Bone/Paua Hei Matau Pendant
$59
This Hei Matau piece is individually hand-carved from beef bone. Each piece has unique characteristics, giving them their own identity, colour and character.
The traditional roots of this taonga are found in the legend of Maui - who used a magical hook to fish up Te Ika-a-Māui - the North Island of Aotearoa.
The matau has come to represent prosperity, abundance and safe travels across water… which feels extra relevant with the addition of paua shell to this unusual piece.
Dimensions: approx 50mm tall
Note that the Paua shell is glued to the bone - it is robust but should be removed when swimming and showering.
