WHAT PROBLEMS ARE BEING SOLVED?
in a world that is increasingly fractured and disconnected, Lalaga provides a place and tool to reconnect and weave people to each other and to remind us, of our greater sense of collective purpose.
HOW LALAGA IS TRYING TO SOLVE DISCONNECTION THROUGH TALANOA/CONVERSATIONS?
conversations that encourage people to connect through a point based system, and using Pasifika wisdom to dive deep into conversations.
"In 2019, I started hosting talanoa sessions alongside my good friend Anatola Finau under Plantation Conversations. Talanoa is an epistemological method widely used
amongst Pasifika people. It allows people to engage in conversation, to connect, discuss issues and unpack knowledge rooted in culture. It is a rich source of information for Pasifika people to understand each other holistically, acknowledge emotions, knowing, experiences and the importance of space. Through these sessions, I saw how it allowed our people to unpack issues/experiences that many do not have the space to unpack. I saw them connect, heal, share and talk in ways that transcended western practices for connection. I saw the transformational power in that and wanted to extend that experience outside of these sessions and into spaces that everyone could have access to. That is where I got the idea to start a card game that could somewhat embody these talanoa sessions/experiences and make these diverse but important conversations accessible for everyone."
