Long Whalebone Drop Earrings

We are honoured to stock these beautiful earrings, handmade from Whalebone by our youngest kaiwhakairo Kristal Thompson (Ngaati Paoa/Ngaapuhi).

Each pair is approx 6cm excluding the hook (surgical steel). The pair you receive may not be the exact same pair as in the photographs but will be as close as it is possible to be with a natural resource.

Whalebone/paraaoa is an extremely special taonga/treasure for Maaori and carries significant energy/mauri, with a spiritual connection to the moana/ocean and the Taiao/natural world.

Kristal Thompson is part of a whaanau who have a long association with carving whale, bone and pounamu. She has grown up around the extraordinary work of her parents and it shows in the elegance and design and choice of materials.

PLEASE NOTE that Whalebone pieces cannot be exported outside of  Aotearoa New Zealand.
