This beautiful Papa Huia box is crafted from recycled native Rimu wood.

A keepsake box, it features an engraved design inspired by patterns often seen on the rafters of Whare Tupuna (Ancestral Houses). In this context, it symbolizes unity, togetherness, and the importance of whanau (family). By merging contemporary form with Māori artistry, this piece seamlessly bridges the present with ancestral heritage, exuding authenticity and deep cultural significance.

Please note that because this item is made from recycled rimu, the finish is not “perfect” and there are marks on the wood consistent with a life lived full of personality and storytelling.

Drawing inspiration from his Māori whakapapa and his work as a Tā Moko practitioner, Wiremu aesthetically blends traditional concepts into modern forms. With a career in the music industry spanning 30+ years, which includes lead guitarist of the world-renowned band Katchafire, Its only natural that influences from his love and passion for music often show through in his art.
