These stunning neck pieces are handmade by contemporary textile artists Alice Spittle (Ngaai Tahu/Waitaha/Ngaati Mamoe) and Aroha Williams (Ngaati Porou/Ngaa Rauru)

They have been expertly handwoven using traditional techniques with muka fibre and houhere, extracted from Aotearoa NZ harakeke/flax. The harakeke is from the infamous "Grandads place" in Horomaka.

Each whiri piece is hand dyed using natural plant dyes derived from korari, paru, inanga.

The harakeke scutch piece has commercial dye.

Each represents many many hours of work, from harvest and preparation through to the creation and finishing.
